Does Router slow down your internet connection?

hi guys

I have a previous generation of wireless-G router

and after connecting to rounter for my dad's pc

internet was noticably slowed down.

connecting to simple web pages like forums here and all seem fine,

but when I go to youtube,

I can hardly play, in fact I can't even watch due to forever loading

does router slow your internet speed this much?

or did I set something wrong, or am I supposed to set something in order to have its full performance

please help my friends

Are you using wireless ? That will cut your speed by as much as half with good reception and much more with poor.

You could try connecting that same computer directly to the modem and find out if the speed is still slow, that was you can isolate the problem
