Should I buy the CM eXtreme PowerPlus 650W?

The question as above. Or do you guys have any other suggestion?
Specs are very low, but planning to add GTX 550Ti end this month.

Core i3-550 3.2 GHz
2x2GB Kingston Valueram
500 GB WD Caviar Green
Intel DH55HC

Current PSU is free with case, want to change..But live in Malaysia, PC parts are expensive though..Budget around 100USD..

More about should extreme powerplus 650w
  1. Not the version you supplied but the 600W variant.
    See this review:

    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/Cooler-Master-eXtreme-Power-Plus-600-W-Power-Supply-Review/1034/1

In short: it's a no no
Look for another supply, like corsair they make very reliable psu's

why not the 650W?? anyway brands like corsair or antec is just to expensive for student like me
  3. Well for starters if you took the time to look at that review it's clearly stated that the 600W variant should have never have been labeled 600W.
And by buying this it would basically be a ripoff.

Do you have any other options regarding psu's where you can choose from?
If you do not have other options and that's the only way for you to go then seeing what you have that psu should be enough, but still this series psu is far from being a quality product.
  4. i think the only brands within my budget is CM or Huntkey.. i think CM would be better right?

anyway i've looked for some corsair stuff. they all cost too much for me though..

i've read the review, quite shocked company such as CM do such thing..anyway thanks for your help
  5. ocz is better then you have antec..
But stay away from the Cool Master.
    Get OCZs.
  6. Well there are series from CM that are ok, unfortunately this line isn't.
Can you maybe still tell me the type of that Huntkey psu ?

maybe i'll try look around for ocz
  8. from reading i found that good PSU come with large sum of money,,am i right??
  9. Like almost all things quality comes with a price...
Do remember that if you get a good solid psu now, it will serve you well also in future upgrade's.

Seems like you dont have money for psus. What is the incase psu?
As Sooest009 says you could get far with a good cpu but your budget is limiting. However some corsairs and antecs are below the 100usd.
  11. @ghnader currently using psu coming wwith casing rated at 230W..for now i use no graphic card

    No graphic card?
Do you have 100usd or you cant go above?
    Some 100usd psu are solid.

maybe i can consider 100 usd..that's depends though
  14. Do you have a link to a reseller there in Malaysia ?
Maybe we can spot something for you that suits your budget.
  15. antecs, ocz, seasonics even corsairs all have budget psus.
  16. i'll try find reseller in malaysia..
  17. anyway..what should i look when finding PSU??any hint, special features??

if possible wanna try OC, SLI in the future though,, not now
  18. Sure,
You need look at power that is the main important thing then you have to look at Brand second most important thing then you have to find out the continuous(average) current pull the 12v rails accept.
  19. is vx450 from corsair good enough??

no maybe cx500??would be cheaper i think??can you give me suggestion for what series to buy for budget aroung 80-100 usd, corsair or antec or ocz
  20. depends on which one is cheaper. Most people say antec i say ocz.
    Find the cheapest one ok?
which has a 16a pull on each rail for the 12v rail.
  21. how about silverstone??

here are some brochure from malaysia stores,,here we don't have much internet storesmust walk in to buy..these are some of the PSU listed and price
as you can see,, my budget between RM 200-300
    http://www.pczonecomputer.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/PSU-260411.pdf
  22. the 550ti needs a pcie 6 pin connector.With a pull of 14ampere on the connector.
  23. i may need to consider 5770 if the PSU cost too much though..i am searching for PSU with 6 pin pci-e

i think the 5770 is way better than the gtx 550 ti.
  26. maybe i'll look for vx450,, but cannot SLI and xfire right ??that's still nice no need multi gpu now
  27. get the corsair vx450 added with the ati 5770.
  28. i'm not sure,,benchmark for crysis show gtx550 ti slightly better,,but who know with overclocking maybe 5770 better

plus,, how about ocz stealthXstream 2?

    which one?
    The 700w or 500w?
  30. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-550-ti-gf116-radeon-hd-5770,2892.html

Overall performance between the two is pretty much the same.
Power consumption however is better on the 5770 making it's a slightly better choice if it come's down to your psu capability's

  35. sorry late reply,,ok i'll look for vx450 and hd 5770..
