Enough power?

Could my system be crashing due to too little wattage? It freezes and makes a buzzing like noise. I run dual GTX 470's, an i5 760, 4 sticks of ddr3, 1 SATA HDD, Antec 900 case, and quite a few USB adapters are plugged in. I think my psu might only be 650 watts. I'm just looking for someone to either agree with this or not.

More about enough power
  1. Just verified I have a 750 Watt antec(EarthWatts) PSU.
  2. An Antec EA750W should be enough and is a good unit.
Where is the noise originating from?
  3. The speakers and the screen freezes and i cant do anything but do a hard reset
  4. Well, this http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-480,2585-15.html would put 2 470s at 736 watts, and then add the rest of your system...that's probably the problem.
  5. Also, listen to the other parts of the system when it happens to make sure. Try a tube, like a paper towel roll, to localize the sound.
  6. it comes out of the speakers for sure. It sounds like when an AMP has just been plugged into a guitar but continuously. And ya thanks for verifying that for me. I'll gladly take any recommendations from people for PSU's xD
  7. So an 850 Watt should do just fine then?

Well it's true 2x470's chew up alot of power but not that much.
    Under 600W on a oc'd i7 965.

Your psu could very well be failing though.
  9. Alright well I'll do a bit more research on this and see if I can find anything. If not then I'll try a new PSU but I honestly don't wanna spend any $ at all cuz Bulldozer and Kepler are gonna be out at the end of this year.
  10. Would a MAJOR drop in performance for everything be fault to a failing psu? Since last time it shut off like that. I've had low framerate in games and a slower start up and longer loading times. Even when I open Chrome it takes about 5 seconds.
