What to do when the mic of the headphone is not working

Hello,
my headphone when tested in the market was working but at home the mic is not working at all. We can hear the voice of the oter person, but the person cannot hear our voice. What do I do?

Open your Sound options in your Control Panel and check your recording options. Make sure it points to your sound card (if USB headset, choose that in drop down). This happens to me frequently after I use my webcam and have to switch it back when I want to game a bit.
