I'm looking for a new desktop build. I have a 4 year old Dell. It's currently inoperable as either the CPU, MOBO, or PSU is failing (can't tell which). The Video card died recently so I just replaced with Ge 8150 maybe? Anyway have a dvd and dvd burner to reuse at a minimum, maybe video card.

Want to:

1. Have two monitors. have to buy them too. (recommendations?)
2. Picture editing (plan on getting photoshop and whatever else)
3. Video gaming (last game I bought was SC2 and then my cpu died). I'd like it to buy a video card to last for a while, then upgrade later when games are better. If that makes sense. Otherwise whatev.

Looking for about $600.

Then I'll work on an operating system and monitors from there.

Thanks in advance.

Quite frankly, you should wait until Sandy Bridge is re-released to build. Try baking your video card so you can keep using your computer until SB is out.

And Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB--much better than the Seagate Barracuda. And a 5850 is MUCH better than a 5770--try to get that. Also, if you can get a 620W PSU (from a good manufacturer), you can run a second 5850 when you want to get one.

sandy bridge isn't coming back till Q2 or even Q3! Plus Sandy Bridge is for light consumers, that do not need a dedicated Graphics. Gaming need dedicated graphics.... the only pro is, he has the top of the line ornaments....

Ok, went to purchase set with HD 6870 and RAM and power supply combo no longer come up... Anyone have a combo to get below 600 again? Or a recommendation on RAM since one is gone? I dont' know what all these numbers mean...

Ok, old combos are gone, here is my new build. Can anyone confirm Power Supply is adequate, all parts match, and case fits everything?

Total price $601.89

And then I have dvd drives on old cpu to use.

a few changes:
Get the AS Rock 870 Extreme 3 instead of the Gigabyte 890. Nothing on 890 that isn't on the 870 except the onboard graphics you aren't using, and a few extra PCI slots you won't use either, and the 870 is cheaper.

Rather than the Caviar Blue, get the Segate Barracuda 7200.12 or the Spinpoint F3 500 GB models, same price, faster than the Blue

HEC is a lower-quality brand, get this 650W XFX instead, 650 is enough for crossfire 6870s, so go for quality over any more wattage.

if you plan to overclock more than a very light overclock (more than 3.6 GHz), you'll want an aftermarket CPU heatsink. The Hyper 212+ is a good choice at $30

-You might want to get ur RAM up to 1600 mhz for better over clocking
-If you want to over clock, u can get a $20 Cooler Master Hyper 212+ for better cooling
- Get a 870 mobo, no need for a 890, unless u want to got for crossfireX later

Ok, another build...

$617 after rebates ($50, other one had none). I couldn't find a combo with asrock 870 extreme 3. Is AMD 880G equivalent? It's 10 bucks more but in a combo with 30 dollar savings...

So in the end cost $15 more but get bigger harddrive, 1600 ram, better? power supply. Any comments?

Ok, actually looking back, I did this, when with 1600 mhz ram and 870 extreme 3 mobo. The mobo says it supports 1600 (OC). What does that mean?
