NOTES:

1.* means have not purchased yet
2. I will overclock the ram to 1866Mhz
3. Most of the core components I have, I got them at a silent auction and did not pay more than $100 for any component! :)
4. Do you guys personally used any of the Peripherals? If so, do you like them?

My budget is $1250 for core components which are:

-Case
-HDD
-GPU(s)
-CPU Cooler

I have another $750 for Peripherals and other stuff like:

-Keyboards and Mice
-Monitors
-Speakers

Any and all assistance would be great! If you have a better replacement for a part let me know! Thanks!

What have you gotten, also what is your budget?

If you have a 1500$ budget, which by looking at the parts it seems you do. I suggest you look at my siggy for the 1.5K build. It'll perform much better than the build you listed, future-proofing wise.

So far I have:

CPU: i7-960 3.2Ghz
Ram: 12GB Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz
MOBO: EVGA X58 Classified 4-way SLI
PSU: Ultra 1000w

I plan on getting:

HDD: Dual 300GB Velociraptors in RAID 0*
CPU Cooler: Ultra ChillTec*
Case: HAF 932*
GPU: Dual Radeon 5870's in Crossfire*

My budget is around $1250 for the items listed above. Do you know any other substitutes that would work better?

I actually already have a 300GB raptor, just thought to buy another one to build up my 10K RPM HDD for more games and apps since I've been movies most of my older games onto my Caviar Black which was dedicated to movies, so I need another 300GB. Iam very satisfied with the boot speed and load up programs, yeah an SSD is faster, but not worth it for me. My games load very quickly as do my apps. I might purchase a small SSD like 60GB for the OS. I am actually not going to not get the Logitech MX Revolution Mouse nor the Logitech DiNovo right now so that saves me about $100 for the mouse and $115 for the DiNovo. Any good ssd's for the $200-$225 range?

If you want the highest speed possible, the Revodrive WR2 suggested would be fine. But I don't think you need it since in a real world stand point, you won't notice a huge difference from Revodrive to SSD. Get the Vertex 2. Again WR2 suggested.

However you should wait for the SATA III SF-2000 controller. That'll allow much faster reads and writes from the current gen of SF-12xx controller SSDs. So I think if you plan on updating to SSD, wait till SATA III SF-2000 controller SSD's come out.

As for the cooler, this would be a MUCH better option. Get the Hyper 212+ it's really all you'll need tbh. Off amazon it's only 27$, 2 fans, free shipping and cheaper than the egg.

The Chilltec isn't worth the price.

As for the GFX, do you already have a 5870? If you don't then get two 6950 2GB and just unlock them to two 6970s'. That'll be all the performance you'll need for a while. Or two 6950 1GB or two 560 Ti's.

The ChillTec, I am getting for free since a buddy of mine won it at the silent auction. He's giving it to me for $10. Looks nice though.... The GPU's, I won one of the 5870's for $35, so I figure buy another one and crossfire em. I will get the 6950's down the line though....

yeah no need to spend $30-$40 when you can get the ChillTec, its reviews and great and so are the low temps. I dont game a lot. My GTX 260 which is equal to the 5770? it does it well enough for me at 1920 X 1080 but only 2X AA on the newer games like Test Drive Unlimited 2, so I need the 5870, but a second one will murder most games I play....

Hi, to run these new drives do all we need is a mobo that supports 6Gb/s which are currently on the market?

mine does Crossfire X, not sure what that is... as I was mainly a Nvidia fan boy, 9800+ GTX, and then a GTX 260.

cool. will I lost performance by not using SATA III? I know SATA II is only 3gb/s but is it noticeable in SSDs?
