I haven't build a computer before and I want to build a gaming computer. My budget is 1000-1400$. I would like to stick with AMD and it needs to have a good sound card. I am unsure if there will be any compatibility issues when it all comes together.

Well I build a really good gaming computer for under 800$, so 1000 would be fine. Here's a list of what I would recommend:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHz ($200) OR AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.2GHz ($140)

Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair Formula IV ($215)

Graphics Card: ATI Radeon HD 5830 ($160 or $140 after rebate)

CPU Heat-sink: AIR: Noctua NH-D14 ($90) OR LIQUID: Corsair Hydro H70 ($110 or $100 after rebate)

Power Supply: Corsair 750W Power Supply ($110 or $90 after rebate)

Computer Case: Antec 900 II ($120) OR Antec 1200 V3 ($160)

Hard Drive: OCZ Vertex 2 60GB SSD (Holds OS and some games; 120$) AND Western Digital Caviar Black 500GB HDD (For Music, Videos, Programs, etc; $60)

RAM: 8GB (4x2GB) Corsair XMS3 1333MHz (It says for i5/i7, I have it and it works PERFECT with AMD; $90)

HIGHEST COST: ~$1100
LOWEST COST: ~$1000

This is just something I whipped up in a few minutes, hopefully this helps. Let me know if you need more help.

with not enuff info (LCD/OS/etc needed) i shall start lowish but on AM3/gaming config one could already nab monster $$/frames with just $600ish with carefully picked out parts hehe

As for soundcard me $0.02:

In the old days it may matter but these days onboard is actually decent and unless you are an audiophile, a dedicated soundcard is not needed. Also know that it is a function of your audio set up as well i.e a top of the line soundcard on normal joe speakers = normal joe sound lol
