Yes, it works. Simply said Capture works very similiar to CrushKill
Destroy. Th edifference is that you will have higher losses in troops,
but will get more prisoners alive. Search this forum for more details,
please.

Yeah that's what I thought

But what about the order which gets most likely the possibility to
attck first "crushKillDestroy" or "capture" if enemy has the
CrushKill...

You can regard mode 5 as a modification of mode 4 with different kill and loss parameters for special ground combat phases. Both
will be executed within the same piece of code. Still the luck decides if a mode 4 or mode 5 attacks first if they meet.

Easiest way to vercome this is to attack the enemy base with 'deep
ground patrols' to wither down the enemy forces.
This will take about 3-5 turns.
After that (all eneym troops and crew are dead) just 'capture base' and
will have no problem to caputre amost all enemy colonists ;^)
You have to have a blockade over the planet all the time of course...

Well, it could take more turns if he returns to peaceful. Then no combat occurs at all.
