If I'm using a 2500k and a Z68 board, I"m wondering whether I'd get any of the benefits of the HD 3000 chipset? To get the benefits, does the software I use have to already have support written for it, or is it something that happens at a lower level of the OS? I'll be writing code to suck in frames from USB webcams, process them, and then put them out to the monitors. Does this change if I use a discrete GPU and Virtu?

Second, does anyone know what resolution the HD 3000 can output for a single, or a two monitor setup?

Solution
The Intel® HD 2000/3000 graphics are capable of resolutions up to 2560 x 1600 from the DisplayPort, HDMI. The Intel HD 2000/3000 graphics can also support dual independent displays. For more information on Intel HD 2000/3000 graphics you can go to this site http://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/quick-reference-guide-to-intel-processor-graphics/.

Now if I understand your question correctly, you are asking if the software you are using needs to be written for Intel QuickSync to take advantage of it. The answer is yes it needs to be written to take advantage of encoding that Intel QuickSync does. For additional information on Intel QuickSync you can read up on the technology behind it here...

If the motherboard has an HDMI and a DVI, will I be able to get independent simultaneous feeds from each? What about a 3rd monitor if it has a 3rd output (e.g. VGA)?

Okay, so for QuickSync it needs direct software support. What about general 2D GDI support in windows. Does the HD3k have decent 2D performance in that regard?

thanks!
