Buy a 6950 and crossfire with 6870 ?

Im in a bit of a dilemna with the new 6900 series having come out. I have a 500 - 600 $ budget to upgrade my system which is:

530 W Modular tagan, radeon 6870, phenom x6 1090T black edition, 4 gig g skills DDR3, and an MSI 870-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard which has 2x video slots but one is x16 2.0 and the other is x4 2.0.

Could i get a 6950 and a new power supply and put that in crossfire with my 6870? Or should i get another 6870 and another power supply? Or sell the 6870 (for about 170-180 $) and get 2x 6950s and new power supply (which would be a bit more expensive).

  1. 1. 69xx series only can be CF with 69xx series, so 68xx with 68xx too.
    2. Running dual cards (x16 and x4) is a bad idea, the 2nd slot will badly hurt the card performance.
    3. Single powerful card is your only solution. Stay with HD6870 or getting a new single "more" powerful card like GTX580/HD6970.
  2. How about a new mobo and a second 6870 ie from new egg

Don't know what PSU you have but this is an incredibly powerful setup and more than most gamers need even with a 24"+ screen
