Ram Query

I am buying Z68 motherboard,had a few ram queries



1)Does Dual channel requir you to plant DIMM's in alternate or consecutive slots?

2)What does Dual channel really do? - i think it provides more bandwidth with 2 slots taking advantage

3)if it provides more bandwidth,what would be the difference between dual channel motherboard with 4 ram slots compared to quad channel motherboard as even in dual channel we can plant 4 ram sticks?

Your Z68 motherboard will only support Dual Channel. Dual channel is faster and requires 2 or 4 sticks. Go to wikipedia for a full explanation. Some boards will have you use consecutive slots(Say 1and2.) Some like mine the Asus Z68Pro have them in alternate slots for best results with only 2 sticks.
