I've got an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33 GHz in my PC right now, and I'm looking to do a bunch of upgrades.
More specifically, I'll be building a new custom gaming rig, and I'm hoping to use my current processor in the new rig.

From what I've found, the Q8200 is compatible with the Intel P45 and X38/X48 chipset mobos. So, my question is:
Is it worth keeping the current processor (for gaming)? If so, what mobo should I go with?
Or is it better to upgrade to an i5/i7?

Btw, I'll be running a radeon 6870 (adding a second later for crossfire), and I'm hoping to keep the 8GB of DDR3 memory I currently have.

Any input is appreciated.

Currently:

Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 (with stock cooler)
Acer G43 Motherboard (OEM)
8GB DDR3 RAM (OEM)
1TB HDD @ 7200RPM (OEM)
Some CD/DVD drive (which I've used once or twice)
Corsair TX650W PSU
XFX Radeon HD 6870 1GB
23" LG Monitor, 1980 x 1050 res.
OEM Acer case (which I desperately want to leave)

In my new build, I'll most likely be keeping the PSU (at least until crossfire), the RAM, video card, hard drive, CD/DVD drive.
