my guess would be driver conflicts, did you run a complete driver sweep between installls before installign the 6870 as in delete nvidia drives then safe mode drive sweep then back up to install new drivers fo rthe 6870

The new ATI card is not running at full clocks -- it is running in idle mode since the 2d app does not require much GPU power so it runs in idle mode to save power and reduce heat. For example my 5770 runs at a core clock rate of 157Mhz. and Memory clock of 300 Mhz. in 2d mode but goes to its default clock speed of 850 - 1200Mhz. once you need more performance.

So chances are that bench is not doing anything that needs the higher clock settings so the card is just doing the bench in idle mode with the reduced clock rates. Run a 3d bench that calls for better performance or disable power saving mode and you'll get very different results !!

I'm running Windows 7 x64 and the other Ahtlon x2 (not mine) is running Windows XP x32 as specified in my first post's pictures.

Here's the 3D results: http://yfrog.com/063dgraphicsp

How is he beating me in 3D complex graphics with a GT 8600?? :fou:

It's a brand new system this is the first graphics card. Only Nvidia-related software ever installed was physx for Metro 2033.

What Benchmark test is that ?? -- The complex test is probably like the 3Dmark VANTAGE CPU physics test which runs on the GPU as well on nVIDIA cards due to Physx vs. running on strictly the CPU on the ATI system so the results are skewed and you wouldn't see that type of performance difference anywhere but in a synthetic benchmark !

Try benchmarking actual games. Or use 3dmark Vantage, or 11.

If the new card is still being out performed, then something is wrong with your setup. If that benchmark you tested is run in 2D mode, then it's kind of pointless, as the new card just sits in idle mode, as it's not needed to perform well.

Wow, I feel like an idiot. My computer was on power saving mode. I do not remember setting it to this at all. Some of my scores on the benchmark doubled and almost all improved.
