BIOS flashing gone wrong - Dell Vostro 1520

Forum Motherboards & Memory : Chipsets & Bios BIOS flashing gone wrong - Dell Vostro 1520

Hello,

I bought a used Dell Vostro 1520. I ran a BIOS update via Windows and it froze while programming block 12... Since then the computer basically became a brick: when powering the computer on, nothing is displayed on the screen and after a few seconds the num-lock LED indicator starts flashing 4 times a second.

I tried various Phoenix BIOS recovery methods (WinCris, Fn+B, etc.) but none seem to work.

I made some research and found that the BIOS vendor for this model is Phoenix. Unfortunately not all BIOS's provided by Phoenix have the BIOS recovery option enabled, including this particular one.

Can anyone think of a way to get this baby back to life without reprogramming the chip with an external device? Only reason I don't want to go down the "taking out the chip, reprogramming it and putting it back in" path is because paying someone to do it will cost as much as the whole laptop did...

Thanks in advance!
