I am building a new computer and I have been gleaning information from the forum. Thank you, all you experts, who chime in with your wisdom.

Approximate Purchase Date: tomorrow or the next day

Budget Range: less than $1000 including the monitor

System Usage from Most to Least Important: Games like SC2, Crysis, Web Surfing

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: micro center, frys, newegg, amazon

Country of Origin: Orange County, CA, USA

Parts Preferences: AMD

Overclocking: Yes

SLI or Crossfire: No

Monitor Resolution: upgrade to 1080p FIRST QUESTION: What size/brand/response time monitor do you think is best?

I currently have a Samsung SyncMaster 930B
# Max Resolution 1280 x 1024 / 75.0 Hz
# Max Sync Rate (V x H) 75.0 Hz x 81.0 KHz
# Video Bandwidth 140.0 MHz
# Response Time 8.0 ms

Additional Comments: I am going to put a Phenom X4 965 inside. SECOND QUESTION: I am stuck on mobo's. Is there really much of a difference in quality? With the Microcenter bundle any mobo is $40 off with a cpu so what do you recommend? Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H Socket AM3 880G mATX? Asus M4A87TD/USB3? Gigabyte GA-880GM-UD2H?
THIRD QUESTION: Should I return the 5770 and get a better GPU like a GTX 470 or HD 5870?

This is what i received from newegg today, please give me your input on the right mobo that is compatible with the ssd and memory. THANK YOU! -Deanomite

and need to return the GPU to get the 560ti you recommend.
I also think the large ssd is overkill but I am going to keep it.
I will goto microcenter tomorrow or the next day to get the CPU/mobo

Best solution

Had built plenty with that MSI 870 hence i would say it's a good choice but the Giga 880G is actually my fav combo for SFFs, mATX builds but for an ATX mid tower build and going discrete it's not as desireable hehe

Cool, thanks, I will go with the MSI 870A.
I plan on overclocking to 3.8 is the CM 212+ Hyper cooler $30 necessary or is the stock cooler sufficient?

Whoa for 955BE peeps have reported 3.5-3.6 on stock but then again that depends on their ambient so for higher clocks/best results hit an after market

We're looking at a 965BE, so 3.8 is reasonable for that right?

but I guess the point is, if I overclock I should have the CM 212+ Hyper cooler, so I will get one.

Well for OC YMMV so can't say for sure on stock HSF but you could try it out and see if how your chip responds clocks/temps ^^

that makes a lot of sense. One can always try it and see how it goes then get a cooler later if it getting too hot. If it were you, how much would you overclock a 965BE?

I am asking because I haven't OC'd yet and am learning about it by reading different forums, and you have experience with it.

In that case no rush and you could pick it up - many subforums for OCing online so good luck ^^

I thought of another question, if you don't mind: on the Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive What does it mean that it is a Bare Drive? Does it need a mounting bracket or something?

Nah all/most casings have a 3.5" bay so it's all good ^^
