Help needed for usb mouse

I have this IBM optical usb mouse model MO09BO but sometimes it stops working and I receive this error message "one of the usb device attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it".
Some one please help me ,I tried every thing but to no avail and am really desperate now.

Just how old is this mouse? Sounds like it's failing to me. To be sure however, check if you can borrow another USB mouse from a friend, and try that. This will help you check if the problem's with your mouse, or your computer.

Thanks for the reply, the other mouse I tried is working but this one is having problems.
