  1. Hello synkid88;
Your research is showing. Good job.

I do have a question about that SSD. What research did you find that led you to that make/model?

Looking at that PSU. Are you planning for a 2nd GPU in CFX?

Without an aftermarket CPU cooler I think you don't need the AS 5. The pre-applied thermal compound on the stock AMD heatsink isn't terrible stuff.
  2. Games/movies you won't need 8GB DDR3 and also 40GB SSD (nvm 32GB) i feel is a tad small so why not hit a 60GB Sandforce based one? Either way for the $$

  3. You can upgrade from that 32GB Corsair Nova w/ Barefoot controller @ $79
to a OCZ Agility 2 60 GB SandForce 1200 controller for $90 after rebate
  4. I wasn't sure about the 4gb vs 8gb of DDR3 but I guess 4gb will be fine. I do like the Sandforce SSD 60gb and will update my list with that. I wasn't sure that the AS 5 was really needed but you have confirmed that it probably is not. Being my first build, I am not looking to get too complicated with multiple GPUs or things of that nature. In regards to the PSU, I was looking at the Antec NEO ECO 520W but the one I listed was the same price after rebate. I was looking at CPU fans (as posted above), but was not sure if this set up required one.
  5. Hmm considering the cheap CFable platform and juicy HD 6k crossfire scaling i would say if it falls withing budget go for the option to CF

  6. If you just want to nudge your CPU a bit higher (like 3.4Ghz ~3.5Ghz region) the stock AMD cooler is fine. Anything more and you'll probably want a stronger after market CPU cooler. AS5 thermal compound will improve performance a bit but isn't necessary if you're not going for the top end in overclocking.

Antec NEO ECO 520W is an excellent choice of PSU for any single GPU you're considering. The ECO part of the title means it comes without a mains cord. You might have one laying around you can recycle into the new build.

Is your monitor resolution going to stay on 1280x1024?
  7. I'm new to this whole scene and am honestly not sure about monitor resolution. I am using a Vizio 26" LCD TV as a monitor with a DVI -> HDMI cable right now, and plan to use that for the new build.
  8. Got the model of your Vizio 26" TV? It could be 720P or 1080i and it makes a difference in what is a suitable video card for pushing the number of pixels the monitor/TV has.
  9. VIZIO VW26L HDTV10F
  10. VIZIO VW26L HDTV10F Native resolution is 1366 x 768 pixels.

A Radeon HD 6870 will be a powerful performer at this resolution.
  11. Here is a many benchmark comparison between Phenom II X6 1090T - 3.2GHz vs Phenom II X4 955 - 3.2GHz If you look at just the gaming benchmarks you might be tempted to say no.
    Same comparisons between Phenom II X6 1090T - 3.2GHz vs Core i5 760 - 2.80GHz and Phenom II X6 1090T - 3.2GHz vs Core i7 2600K - 3.4GHz
  12. It looks like this should be the final revision of my list. I think these parts should work well.
