New budget PC build - N00b Help

Hey everyone, firstly I just want to say thanks for taking the time to help me out and read this!

Anyway, it's that time when I need to upgrade to a new PC.
My old PC is well...just that, old.

The main reason I want a new pc is for gaming.
I would also really love to be able to play ffxiv smoothly.
( I know, I know, I heard bad things too but I just want to try it)

I'm a broke student, so my budget is between 500-600 USD. (After rebates)
I have speakers, keyboard, mouse, monitor, so hopefully that helps
keeping the budget low.

I really don't know much about PCs at all, so any help would be appreciated!

Oops! One more question,
i'm currently running XP,
but for 64.99 (since im a student)
I can get Windows 7 Professional, which would bring me over
my budget, but I think I can do it.

Is it worth it?

Haha, well is Windows 7 Professional a good upgrade? (that seems the be only one o ffered at a student discount) How is it with gaming etc? Do you know?

7 is Window's most multi core frenly OS to date but if $$ tight hang on to XP till u have more funds ^^
