....a wireless network interface card either pci (internal) or pc-card
and a wireless router. A broadband modem is required, but presumably
that is supplied by the ISP.

You need a wireless network adapter for the laptop, and some form of
"base station" connected to the cable or DSL modem. For most people,
today, the "base station" is a "wireless router", actually a wireless
access point, router and 5-port switch all in one unit.

Hi Bishoop,
My HP Pavilion zd7010us has wi-fi built in so I use that when
available. For use most everywhere I travel, I have a Sierra AirCard
750 (cellular modem (GSM/GPRS)) the service is through T-Mobile, and
is $29.95 for unlimited service a month. For the two places I travel
to that doesn't have cellular service I use my Motorola V600
(Bluetooth enabled) and a D-Link USB Bluetooth dongle with service
through Cingular) I also use the Cingular service with my Palm
Tungsten|T3.
Being GPRS, the speed is only 40Kbps. I use ZipLink, and get as much
as 60Kbps throughput.
Ciao . . . C.Joseph
