Correct. More phase power is great for OC, the higher the number, the more stable and higher overclock.

So, if u don't OC, u are fine : ) Its a good board. U can OC as well, try little by little : )
When u have 12, its much better, but u have to pay little more, around $150

I found this one GIGABYTE GA-990XA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990X SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128510

8+2 phase VRM + DUALBIOS 3TB+ HDD SUPPORT (HYBRID EFI TECHNOLOGY)

was: $149.99 [strike]$139.99[/strike] now $129.99 after mail-in rebate card

Better than both and unlock the extra core...

Tell your dad that mobo is a center piece of the PC and CPU is the heart.

And the best and most enjoyable experience comes with mid end quality hardware.

U can say, that he would not buy a car without Air Condition and power windows and remote door locks : )

After all, there are mobos that cost well past $400!
