My price range is 100-$200ish.
i have an i7 950
and a 700W ocz power supply so i know my psu can handle either a 460 or 470.
i play on a 1600x900 monitor
i play mostly bfbc2, sc2, mmorpgs and league of legends l4d. I dont know which 460 to get or should i just go wit a 470.

the palit 460 1gb for $160
http://www.microcenter.com/single_product_results.phtml...
the msi hawk talon 460
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
asus $180
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
or should i just get a 470? any help will be appreciated? and can i overclock the palit and asus like the msi hawk talon.

If your mind is made up and stubborn then the GTX470 isn't bad at all but avoid the GTX465 and the GTX480 is overpriced. You could just go with a GTX570 or wait a month or so for the GTX560.

Just be sure to keep it cool and I will say again as I have done in my review. You have to keep the card cool and not just rely on what the programs tell you. The power vrm on the vast majority of the GTX460s out there runs on the hotside and is to blame for many of the failures. Run the fans at 100% and no this card is silent and you wouldn't hear it hardly at all. Overclocking is decent meaning that you should expect 825 on the core without having to touch the volts. Don't bother with nuking the vram unless you are playing a game that is a memory hog like GTA IV or playing at 1920x1280. I get 850 on the core on mine and it rock solid however with stock bios i am unable to do much with the colts but you can upgrade it to the f3 bios. Good luck.

is the 768mb model a bottleneck because of the memory in allot of games?
and if you SLI them does that help with the memory limitations?

Get the ASUS card which has the best cooler.
The GTX 460 768 MB version is good for gaming upto 1680x1050, but you might need the 1GB version keeping in mind the future.

Hey nforce how do i flash the video card bios? And im pretty sure i should make a copy of my current bios.. Wouls be my first time flashing vbios need to find a good step by step and where to find gigabyte 460 to put voltahe at lile 1.2ish and max fan speed.. And i read that u shouldnt go past 1.15v on air? And i was thinking of going 900-950 core 1600-1800shader and memmory raising a little since i dont think its very important like the others correct?

Why would you want to flash the video card bios? Its risky and I do not recommend it.

On the Gigabyte version doesn't allow the user to use any thing higher than 1.037v or so which caps the overclocking to around 825-875 on the core which sucks ass.

Im going to be a little blunt but as you seem intent on getting a 460 and OCing the life out of it stop buggering about and just get the MSI HAwk card, its built for overclocking, all the hardware on the card is geared towards it and MSI make quite a good little application for Overclocking which has some nice voltage adjustments if your running a MSI card you get more usability and features out of it.
You may have heard of it its called Afterburner.

Mactronix :)

the msi gtx460 is on sale on newegg right now
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

whats the diff from that and this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

if they are the same and the second one is just factory overclocked between the msi and gigabyte which has the best cooler?

edit: yea mactronix i heard of afterburner. and prob going with msi it does seem like its better at ocing and its cheaper by $10. gonna go with msi the cooler looks similar to gigabyte.

The only problem about the hawk is that the power vrm has no heatsink and don't say that it doesn't need it because I got pics of one that blue smoked due to having no cooling on the mosfet stages. If you do get you will have to pop the cooler and add some additional cooling there.

yea i was planning on adding vrm heatsink chips but idk where to buy those and where to put it. ima keep looking online for the vrm heatsinks. and someone can add a pic on where to install all the vrm heatsinks very helpful thanks.
edit: got a picture someone correct me but i think those are the places to put heatsinks on correct? now to find some.

for the vrm chipsets found three
http://www.mwave.com/mwave/SKUSearch_v3.asp?px=FO&scrit...
http://www.aerocooler.com/shop.cart?action=ITEM&prod_id...
http://cgi.ebay.com/GELID-Upgrade-Kit-VRM-GTX-460-Icy-V...

i think the first one will do better and gonna get thermal tape and im thinking the vrm are the smaller looking chips the one on the green. next to the SFC?

/face desk to the extreme <_<

That is the vram, look at the end of the card and see the mosfet stages in green. That is what is needed to be cooled. The vram is fine so long that you try to keep the fan speed high enough to move enough air.

okay so put heatsinks on the greens got it. and i added a new one which im 99% sure i will add a heatsink there. thanks nforce. and no need to /face desk you gotta /face palm. desk will hurt more.

okay well i am waiting for the heatsinks now i got my card today. and just to be acurate is to put a heatsink on each little mosfet in the green in the pic correct? and what actually heats those up voltage increase in general, or memory speed or shader memory? so i would need about 18 small heatsinks if i got small ones?

The GTX 460 Hawk is 780Mhz core clock. The GTX 460 Hawk Talon is 810Mhz. So you pay a bunch more for 30Mhz more OC. :)

Just the mosfets, don't bother with the memory as they won't fit. The small ones should have plenty of room to spare under the cooler. As for the larger ones I don't know the space. Just the mosfets and you are fine but be sure to keep the fans up and regularly clean them.

I would suggest MSI GTX 460 1 GB HAWK for....

1. GTX 460 is the best card considering the price and power combination released by NVIDIA yet.

2. Cyclone if powerful too, however it has a one big fan while HAWK has two comparatively smaller fans. I hv not used Cyclone but my HAWK is total soundless and I think Cyclone bigger fan must be making some sound. Also I think two fans do better heat management then one big fan.

3. Hawk has the latest drivers for shaders and pixel rates.

4. Though 760 MB can still do good for a mid range gamer, it is better to go for 1 GB as 760 is just about to leave its place towards left side of the marker.
