Is the Athlon 64 X2 5600 2.8GHz/6000 3.0GHz a BIG upgrade from 4400?

I have a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ 2.3GHz now and I am scared it will bottleneck my 9800 GTX+. I am willing to upgrade my CPU but not my mobo. Is the Is the Athlon 64 X2 5600 2.8GHz/6000 3.0GHz a BIG upgrade from 4400?

  1. what is your motherboard socket , use CPU-Z to tell. I am guessing it is socker 939, then in that case the 6000 is the best cpu you can buy (I believe...)

how cheap are you able to get it? if its relatively cheap like $40 or so.. then yea itll be worth it , but overall its best to save your money for a new build. The 9800gtx+ isnt all that powerful anyways to be bottlenecked too much by a 4400

Wait for some other opinions as well though
  2. actually based on this: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/28?vs=35 , it seems to be a decent upgrade (gaming benchmarks scroll to bottom), but like I said, that would only be true if your 9800gtx+ is actually the bottleneck. What is your resolution you play at?

    I on the 1440x900 resolution.
  4. so how much can you get the 6000+ for? it would have to be used right?

also.. download CPU-Z (google it) and let me know what your motherboard is, if you have a socket AM2 you may be able to get a better processor...

I really don't want a new CPU..Can't afford right now. I just want to upgrade my GPU

    Supports AMD® AM2 Socket K8 Athlon™ 64 X2, Athlon™ 64, Athlon™ FX, and Sempron™ processors under 89 watt power consumption

  6. But in your original post you said you are willing to upgrade your cpu :s ... lol

I wouldnt upgrade your gpu in this system, as anything more will be even more bottlenecked
