Microphone jack not working

My microphone jacks have stopped working recently on my PC and I can't seem to find a way to replace them without having to get rid of my motherboard. If anyone knows a way to replace the jack without changing the motherboard or a way to use a mic without the jack would be very helpful.
I have considered using a USB headset but I just want to know if there's any other possibility.

pci or pci-express sound card. Can be had for 20 bucks on newegg. Though if you have win vista or 7 and have more than 4gb of ram you will have problems with a sound blaster chip card. So if you have lets say xp or win7 and 2gb of ram youre fine to get a sound blaster.

there are quite a few good sets that come with built in sound. i picked corsair because they got a liscense from dolby which is the best (imo).
