you really do not need the aux power for the MoBo to operate, if its not powering up its probably processor compatibility... i had the same problem with a 2.8GHz 12m 6.40GT/s processor but got frustrated, i tried a 1.86GHz 8m 4.80gt/s the board powered up thats when i upgraded its BIOS and it was compatible with the 2.80 processor.
