X1650 or X1950

I have been thinking of upgrading my AGP video card X1650 to X1950.

Which is better?

• Radeon X1650 512mb GDDR2 128-bit
• Radeon X1950 512mb GDDR3 256-bit
• Radeon X1950 256mb GDDR3 256-bit

I have X1650 512mb right now, and I plan to upgrade to X1950 but my problem is, I can only find people who sells X1950 256mb. Nobody sells a X1950 512mb.

So:
X1650 512mb GDDR2 128-bit vs X1950 256mb GDDR3 256-bit ??

If I can find a person in our country who sells Radeon X1950 256mb GDDR3 256-bit, I'll go for it right?

  1. I'd get none of them.
Though this one is costly, its much better that any of the cards you listed:

I don't have a money for that sir.
My PC is now 6 years and 6 months old, I'm upgrading it to keep it working.
I just have a money to buy X1950 sir, that's my only option.
However, if you know any AGP Graphics Card that is better than X1950 and the price is also the same, please tell me. :)
  3. What is your budget? I still don't understand the logic behind buying a five year old card.
  4. Of the two, I would get the X1950.

    Which is better?..
    X1650 512mb GDDR2 128-bit or X1950 256mb GDDR3 256-bit ??

    OR should I wait until someone sells me a X1950 512mb GDDR3 256-bit ??
  6. ^^^

I believe I have already given my response; which you quoted.

If you can get a X1950 512MB, then go for it.

    To clarify,
    X1950 256mb GDDR3 256-bit IS BETTER THAN X1650 512mb GDDR2 128-bit
    Did I get it right?..

But yeah, If I can get a 512mb X1950, I would go for it ^_^
  8. Any X1950 is way better than a X1650. Your right to worry about the size of the memory though. The X1950 is faster but ideally you would want at least 512mb of memory.
What games do you play and on what size monitor ? the more demanding the game and the larger the monitor the more the memory size will matter.
Can you give us a link to an online site and an idea of budget so we can maybe offer some options you may not be aware of ?

    Mactronix :)
  9. I would think even an AGP 4650 would be faster then either card.

OP, list what cards are available in your country that fit your budget. Perhaps we can spot one your overlooking.
  10. Wow, there's also an AGP version of HD 5670?

Thank You for that piece of information, really helpful.

Unfortunately, the price of 4650 is twice compared to X1950 and I don't have a money for that sire.
    X1950 = 1500php
    4650 = 3000php
  12. What about a 36xx or 38xx?

From what I remember even an 2600XT could match (or close to it) the x1950. Any card better then the 2600XT should be faster then the x1950. An old 3650 should even be good. Again, I would look around more before buying the x1950.

38xx series won't do because their price is like 3000php - 4500php here and I don't have that amount of money sir, as what I have said in my reply above.

36xx series would do if they're better than X1950 because the price of the both only ranges around 1500php, meaning, I can buy a card at that price only.

About 2600XT, I can't find anyone who sells one. In our country, computer stores don't sell AGP cards anymore, their stocks are all PCI-E now. I only look for cards on e-bay-like sites but computer parts dedicated.
  14. The 36xx cards are basically improved 26xx cards, they are a bit better but not a lot. Both cards are weaker than the X1950.
Just to be sure which card we are talking about here when you say X1950 can you tell us which model please. Such as X1950 Pro for example, there was a GT version which is noticably weaker than the Pro version.

Thank you for that information again. As I thought, X1950 is better than those 26xx and 36xx card.
And sorry for forgetting to specify the X1950 I'm asking about. Here's it.

As the other better cards are unfortunatly out of your price range then of your options that is definatly the best card to go for.
Its a pity you cant streatch to a better card but money is tight everywhere these days and a budget is what it is.
Get the [AGP] Radeon X1950 Pro 512mb GDDR3 256-bit and enjoy it. Assuming you wont be CPU limited, you will see a nice differance between it and your 1650.
If you want to please post the rest of your system specs just so we can check to be sure, you wouldnt want to spend out on the new card and see no differance now would you ?

I disagree. As I mentioned before the 2600XT performed like the x1950pro. (not the x1950XT or XTX.) The 3650 performed like the 2600XT, so it to should be around the speed of the 1950pro. If he can get the 3650 it should be a better buy with newer drivers, and probably the 512MB of ram he wants. He did say he can get a 36xx if he can find one for 1500. I'd start my search for one of those.

Edit: Looking at benchmarks the 3650 does seem to equal a 2600XT, but they both seem to fall short of the x1950pro. I don't have any that compare the 3650/2600XT to the pro, but looking at other cards the scores seem quite low. Not sure if my memory is faulty in this case or what.

Memory (Human) can be funny old stuff. I tend to check even if I know im 100% right as there always seems to be something you overlook :D

  19. I agree with mactronix.

I searched google for those cards and I found these facts:
X1950Pro have a much better over-all performance compared to HD3650. The only advantage of HD3650 is that it supports DirectX 10.1 which is Pixel Shader 4.1 while X1950Pro only supports DirectX 9 which is Pixel Shader 3.0, but with the other specifications and performance, X1950Pro is way better than HD3650.

@4745454b - If you don't believe what I have said, try using google and see for yourself what everybody else says about those two cards ^_^

Its ok read what 4745454b posted again, its been edited to agree with whats been said the post was wrong and has been edited to agree that the X1950 Pro is the faster better card.

  21. I'm still mildly concerned about my memory. I still remember the 3650 to be the better card. Why is that? Drivers? Faster CPUs then when they were first tested? My old whiskey induced memory?
  22. So, in conclusion the best buy for a low budget person like me is X1950 Pro ?
  23. X1950pro even compares to HD4650 in performance and is a good choice for an older system http://www.overclock.net/graphics-cards-general/502403-graphics-card-ranking-5th-time-last.html
