Laptop dual monitors

Hello,
I am thinking of buying a new laptop with an ATI mobility Radeon 5470 graphics card. The spec sheet says this card can be used for dual monitors. I have 2 X Samsung Syncmaster monitors (21.5") which are currently run on a desktop with 2 ouptputs. I mainly do spreadsheet and word applications. I do not do any gaming.
Being a newbie, my questions are:
1) Because the mobility card only has 1 output, I assume some sort of splitter is required, what is recommended so I can run separate applications at the same time
2) Is this graphics card overkill for what seems to be simple application use and no gaming

It means that you can use the in built screen and another screen in either extended desktop or duplicate mode, there may be a way you can use a splitter I am not sure but I wouldn't advice it.
