My first thought would be pushing the CPU too but I'm not sure how well the NV chipsets were by the C2 CPUs...

Final fantasy 14 recommends a core i7, thats a quad core proc. Upgrading to a new system will cost you more than just to upgrade your current cpu. Its better in the long run, but might be a little drastic for just one game. You only need a new mobo, a cpu and new ram. With $400 you could get something good.

You can always OC that cpu. I have a Q8400 OC'ed it to 3.2ghz just by changing the FSB 333MHz to 400MHz and everything on auto. But your mobo is not the same as mine (Asus P5Q SE Plus; P45chipset) Maybe you should research more about your mobo and see if it's good on overclocking

If I'm not mistaken, the Pentium Extreme Edition 965 is the fastes cpu fot your board, but its kind of expensive for what it is. Try the Pentium Extreme Edition 955

http://www.amazon.com/Processor-Intel-Pentium-Extreme-1...

You could try to overclock your current cpu, but I dont know much about it...

off the link the Processor - Intel Pentium Extreme Edition 955 - 3.46 Ghz ( 1066MHZ ) - 2MB X 2 L ($225) would not be out of my price range but on ebay i see a Pentium EE 965 3,73GHz 775 CPU *NEW at $208.04.

will the 3.73GHz fit my mother board and if so is there really any difference from 3.46 to 3.73.

The ling that I provided is just for reference. You can alwas search for the best deal after you know what you looking for. Be wary of used products, sometimes they dont work. It should fit, the faster the CPU the better get the one from ebay.

would you happen to know how the core 2 Q8300 2.5GHZ compares to the Pentium EE 965 3,73GHz 775 CPU (single, dual, quad?)

Don't buy that CPU!

That's actually quite a bit older than what you have and not a quad core. It may say 3.73 GHZ, but the GHZ for the Pentium 4 cpus isn't the same as for the Core 2 series. Intel made a number of improvements with the Core 2 line and it can execute instructions faster at the same GHZ. A 3 GHZ Core 2 would beat the living stuffing out of any P4 ever released, even if the P4 is running 4 or 5 GHZ.
