It's a lot easier than putting a gaming system together for $200.

Look over the forum's "System won't boot" checklist to see some of the common build errors and how to avoid them.
-> The usual advice; read the manual / install guide; look at the parts, read the manual again and if everything makes sense and looks right - then go ahead with the install.

i also have a dell dimension 4600 with

2.25gb ddr
80gb ide 7200 rpm
intel pentium 4 2.80ghz

is it worth upgrading
February 23, 2011 10:48:41 PM

Ill be honest I have seen alot of people try to build off of old systems and end up dumping more in than they needed to. You are best off to start fresh in my opinion. I just built a new gaming rig for about $650 dollars and most people would consider that on the low end. Thats my opinion and WR2 helped me with some questions so he might have some guru insight that im overlooking here to save one of those but I cant feasibly see it.
System specs:
MOBO: MSI P67A-C43
CPU: 2nd Gen Intel I5 3.3ghz
RAM: One 4GB stick of DDR 1333 Pioneer ram
Hard Drive: Seagate baracuda low power 5200rpm 1tb hd
Opticle drive: Generic dvd r+w
PSU: Ultra 550 lifetime series
Graphics Card: MSI N460GTX Twin FROZR II
This runs most new games on med-high if you want to check the specs.
Best of luck LOGIC.

The case is the least expensive part in the build. Any of those have a working DVD burner?
CPU/MB/RAM/Video card and power supply are what eats up the budget.

The DVD /IDE drive.... you can use that with the right MB.

That's actually a good thing.
All we need now is a 400W PSU which the recommended size for a HD 4650 video card equipped system.
February 24, 2011 12:13:38 AM

i could buy a 460 watt psu from best buy for $39.99

February 24, 2011 12:24:28 AM

The Netvista is the one I was looking at.

I can't get enough detail about the internals and stuff to be sure it will match the motherboard. But it looks close - at least it's an ATX format case.

February 24, 2011 12:27:21 AM

The motherboard has the IDE/PATA controller you need for the HDD and DVD.
It does have the IDE cables in the accessory pack though.

You'll need to scrounge the systems for the flat ribbon cables they need.

Also the Eco PSU doesnt come with a AC power cord. You'll need to recycle one.

Is there any way you can take a picture of the back panel of the Netvista case and a well lighted shot of the case with the side panel off?

I think what you should do is take the parts list and start a new topic.... post everything and get a couple more people to look things over in case I'm missing something.
