About to order this computer...

Just wanted to inquire on an order I am about to place w/ Dell.

System specs:

Intel Core i7-960 processor(8MB L2 Cache, 3.20GHz)
8GB DDR3 SDRAM at 1333MHz
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1GB GDDR5
1TB Serial ATA 2 Hard Drive 7200 RPM
Creative THX TruStudio PC

Just under $1700.

Is this a good price for these specs? Also, is this computer pretty good in today's standards of high-end gaming?

More about about order computer
  1. That's an absolute total rip off. I IMPLORE you, please PLEASE don't buy this computer.
  2. That's not a high-end gaming machine.
  3. If you want to buy from a vendor, check out CyberPower and IBuyPower. They are boutique vendors that give you really good component selection. You will spend around $300 with them (same as Dell), over building it yourself, but at least you can select the components.
  4. Thanks for the feedback guys.

I actually did go through Ibuypower after reading what you guys wrote. This is what I came up with for $50 more @ just under $1750

    i7 960 Processor (4x 3.20GHz/8MB L3 Cache) - Liquid Cooled
    6 GB [2 GB X3] DDR3-1600 - Corsair XMS3 Dominator w/DHX technology )
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 560 Ti - 1GB - PALIT Sonic
    Mobo ( [SLI] MSI X58 PRO-E )
    750 Watt -- Corsair CMPSU-750TX
    500 GB HARD DRIVE -- 16M Cache, 7200 RPM, 3.0Gb/s - Dual 500GB Drives (1TB Capacity) - RAID 0 High Performance
  5. Great build! I built a similar computer 2 months ago with an i7-950 and ATI HD 6870. Your's costs about the same and is a bit faster.
  6. Hey Thanks.

Once again, I appreciate your help guys.

I always knew Dell overcharged but after posting here and doing a bit more research, it was ridiculous how overpriced that computer was.

I finally settled on a slightly different build from what I posted early. I ordered

    CoolerMaster HAF 922 Gaming Case
    i7 960
Asetek 550LC Liquid CPU Cooling System
    6 GB [2 GB X3] DDR3-1600 - Corsair
    GeForce GTX 570 - 1.2GB
    750 Watt -- Corsair CMPSU-750TX
    Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio

A heck of a better deal then the very first one from Dell if I say so myself.

    Thanks again for the help.
