Need to upgrade ram on older MoBo for gaming - not sure about timing and matchin

It currently has 4x1gb

I want to bring it up to 8gb as cheaply as I can while still getting the most out of what I have before a real upgrade.

I have heard talk about memory timing and matching FSB speeds... But know little about it.
Will any PC2 - 6400 (800 mhz) do?

The only way to get to 8 GB is to replace all 4 of your 1GB modules with 2 GB modules. But ram is so inexpensive nowadays, that it's really no big deal. Any DDR2 PC2-6400 (800 MHz) ram will do.

Two kits of any of the ram in the following list will do you fine. I've already selected all the parameters:

Uh no RAM is cheap. Very cheap.

DDR2 RAM is expensive because of increased rarity.

How much can you get DDR2 800 MHz RAM for? Because it may not be worth it. Four GB is ample for an aging system. You will see little to no improvement in most games by doubling it.
