OpenGL games on GeForce 9500GT?

I want to play Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. My comp is Biostar w/AMD Sempron 1.67GHz, 128 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory cache
Not hyper-threaded Board: KM266A-8235
Bus Clock: 166 megahertz, Controllers Display Standard floppy disk controller
Primary IDE Channel [Controller]
Secondary IDE Channel [Controller]
VIA Bus Master IDE Controller NVIDIA GeForce 9500 GT [Display adapter]
ViewSonic VA1930wm [Monitor] (19.1"vis, s/n QFP063605746, September 2006) Bus Adapters Multimedia Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
VIA Rev 5 or later USB Universal Host Controller (3x) C-Media AC97 Audio Device
Creative Game Port
Creative SB Audigy 2 ZS (WDM)
************************************************************
What I need to know is because SW:Kotor is an OpenGL game,,are there ANY drivers for my video card that will intergrate OpenGL support so I can play this game. I found the nVidea 260.99 driver that says it supports OpenGL, but I don't want to make a mistake!

Please someone help me,,I'm lost!
Merry Christmas!,,,Roger

More about opengl games geforce 9500gt
  1. First of all only Macs use OpenGL on games, (PCs usually use Microsoft's DirectX) and the game is from 2003, even my 9400 GT would play it just fine.
  2. Well, it is fouling up somehow. When I get to the custom character select screen, I can get thru a couple of Jedi class and portrait screens, then everything slows down to a crawl, almost a dead stop. Sometimes mouse action is OK, sometimes choppy. But each selection click in the menu takes 30-40 seconds, if it doesn't just freeze up solid. My 7300GT doesn't do any of these things, but it's also pushing the card for this game so got the 9500GT. The main difference between the 2 cards(other than age) is the 7300GT is AGP and the 9500GT is PCI. ,,,,oh,,and the 7300 is by BFG and the 9500 is by Sparkle!
But not seeing any error messages,,,MS or KotOR.
  3. Why did you get PCI? That bus is slower than AGP but shouldn't be the problem. It also shouldn't be a brand problem either, why did you get a 9500, it's not that much better than the low end card two generations ago. First I need some info on your PC(or Mac) like CPU, RAM, motherboard, or system model. One more thing if you plan on returning the card try asking downloading these drivers and then asking Sparkle technical support. I know of some Radeon 4650s that use the AGP bus.

There are my system specs. And you're right,,I shoulda got an AGP,,,what was I thinking,,oh yeah,,it is one of those low profile type cards and was on sale at Tiger Direct. But I have to go with it now. So what do you think? Can I make this damn thing work for KotOR1? Any help at all will be supremely appreciated! StarLynx57
  5. Download the drivers from the Sparrkle website from my last post. Once those are installed go here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displayLang=en and run the installer program. If all else fails open up your system dust out all the components. Can you tell me how the Geforce 7300 was being pushed? I want to know if it was a little slow or was it running really loudly. Oh yeah, happy new year.
  6. mister g,,,downloaded the exact video driver(196.21_desktop_winxp_32bit_international_whql) + the DXWebSetup,,,set them aside on my desktop,,,,booted into safe mode(my logon, not admin) and used Driver Cleaner Pro to get rid of all old nVidea stuff.
Shut down computer,,Changed my 9500GT back in,,Rebooted onto regular desktop,,installed driver and dxwebsetup,,,,,card seems to work well for IE8 and MS Explorer, but same ol, same ol on Kotor1,,,been playing that old game Dink Smallwood,,,but unplayable in a DIFFERENT way, in-game play,,screen will freeze for 10-15 seconds,,then playable for 20-25 seconds..different than Kotor's heavy, heavy lag. So there you have it!! I don't think I'll ever get this card straightened out. I ought to try Doom3 on this card just to see if it's the age of the game that matters.
  7. I really can't figure out what the problem is either. Try patching the game, if that doesn't work either reinstall the game or Windows XP. http://lucasarts.com/support/update/KotOR.html

A low end PCI card with a 1.6 Sempron? I got news, even older games will crawl with that setup. I'm not fimiliar with KotOR requirements, but with a PCI GPU and a low end CPU, I'm not surprised you are having problems...
  9. Kotor is from '03. it's minimum is an Athlon 1 Ghz and a very low end card, i thought that the 9500 would be better and take some stress off of the 7300.

Yeah,,I hear ya,,I'm looking at a few Asus Micro ATX Mobo's within my budget that has 1 regular PCI slot and 'many' newer slots. Probably looking for a bundle with at least a AMD Phenom II Quad Core, fully upgradable memory slots, DDR2 slots, and a high bus speed. Still,,,gonna have to spring for some intense cooling solution,(another $50-$60).....I could really use a suggestion on best mid-range boards you know of. Been using this ::with any BIOS updates,,,,1.67 gigahertz AMD Sempron
    128 kilobyte primary memory cache
    256 kilobyte secondary memory cache
    Not hyper-threaded Board: KM266A-8235
    Bus Clock: 166 megahertz
BIOS: Phoenix Technologies, LTD 6.00 PG 12/24/2004

As you can see, I'm using junk by todays standards,,,and she's getting cranky too!
