my monitor goes blurred after about 10 minutes of use. I have to reboot to sort it. Could this be the cable or something more serious

A CRT is an old monitor that's very deep (unlike an LCD that's rather thin). You should provide a bit more info, e.g., make/model of your monitor and the graphics card that you use.

Since a reboot sorts out the issue, does powering off the monitor for a few minutes achieve the same results?

Then it's time to check your GPU temps, as suggested by 13thmonkey. I doubt a cable can cause that issue, unless a connection is loose.

crt monitor is a cathode ray tube. similar to an old 80's style tv.
give the make and model of your current monitor, the gfx card you use and overall system specs.
the more you give the better the help.
