Boot disk failure insert system disk and press enter

Hello, I have been getting the following message on reboot or startup boot disk failure insert system disk and press enter. I have not changed any hardware or messed with the bios. Also, after I get that message, i hit ctr+alt+del and the PC continues to boot normally. I am rinning Win 7 by the way. Any thoughts?

Make sure the cable is secure.

Go to start-->run-->type chkdsk /r and press enter. That will schedule a chkdsk for the next time you restart, and try to repair any errors it finds.

Thanks! I'll check the cables tonight and run the chkdsk/r as well. I am wondering why this is happening all of a sudden?

It could be early signs of a failing hard drive, or simply a bad/loose cable.
