Looking to build for the first time. Not a huge budget to work with, just about time to upgrade from my 6 year old single core computer. Will use it mostly for some gaming, and other media/entertainment.

Just looking for opinions/suggestions

Looks pretty good, but I'd upgrade the GPU to the 2 GB version. Then you'd be able to flash the BIOS and turn it into a 6970.

I personally don't like the HAF 912. It's pretty expensive for the fact that it has only two fans included. Instead, I'd look at the Rosewill Challenger, Antec 300 Illusion, or Coolermaster 690.

Something else I'd highly recommend is waiting for Intel's Sandy Bridge to be re-released. The new motherboards are supposed to be out in about a month, so you might not be able to wait. If you can, you'll be able to get a good 50-75% (or more) performance gain. The i5-2500K runs $225, while a good board is the ASRock P67 Extreme4 at $150. You would have to trim $145 from somewhere else. My first suggestion would be to drop the RAM to a 2x2 GB kit. Corsair's XMS3 sticks are only $40 after rebate. To get the other $80, I'd then drop out the HSF until you actually decide to overclock. The last $50 (assuming you were at $1,000 already) would need to come from a GPU downgrade or combos. I'd look at dropping to the GTX 560 first, then the HD 6870, then the HD 6850. You shouldn't have to go lower than that.
