I am building a new system, but not sure if I should go for i5-2500k or wait to see what AMD have to offer for bulldozer. my budget for the CPU is about $225 which is how much the i5-2500k cost now. Do u guys think bulldozer will have something as powerful as i5-2500k for a lower price? Any feedback will be appreciate.

I am currently waiting before I build a new rig for my gf. Not because bulldozer COULD be faster then the 2500k with a lower price point, but because it is always better to wait for new products before purchasing. Who knows, the 2500k might drop an extra 20dollars or so.

Wait if you want to but I highly doubt if Bulldozer is going to be offering anything faster compared to the i5 2500k.. And that too at a lesser price point is almost impossible.. There are few early benchmarks available (google them).. They too do not suggest any threat to Sandy Bridge line up courtesy Bulldozer..

If you have have the time then I would recommend that you wait and see what Bulldozer has to offer. Even if it doesn't live up to Sandy Bridge standards it could still shake up the prices of Intel's processors.

Wheres these benchmaeks?
And Bulldozers going to cost how much?

@ OP, if you have the capacity to wait, then do so.
At this point, no one knows much about BD except its coming soon
As for future upgrades, BD may also make it a decision maker as well.

I am not too sure if it would shake up intel 's price as the Sandybridge have only been out for a little while. What if I could get the i5-2500k for 195, do u guy think it's good enough for me to buy it now instead of wait for bulldoser?

thanks for the info, getignited114. according to the price and specs, bulldozer is more expensive than the i5-2500k, isn't it?

Hi All,

I heard that Bulldozer will be launched early June. Any idea when it will be available in the market?

I have the exact same question as the thread-starter and I can wait a little longer until I decide to buy a new rig (since I can still play around with my PS3).

Thanks. :)

if u keep waiting.. the wait will never end.. according to the rumors BD is delayed and Intel is coming up with IVY bridge which is 20% more faster than Sandy bridge and is expected to be released in Oct- Nov.

IB isn't expected until March/April of 2012 now

Yes....!

Even * if * BD did match SB's performance on a core for core/clock for clock basis, will it match the routine 4.5-4.7 GHz overclocks most SB chips manage?

Very doubtful, IMO....

Go for the I5-2500k and enjoy the extra months of usage.

As to BD, I don't think it will be a real threat to SB (But that's just a wild A double S guess).

As to IB, I've read both sides (1) Early to counter BD and (2) later, 2nd quarter 2012, as Intel does not consider BD a threat to SB and a problem with fab.
Ref Dtd 23 May: http://ontechnow.com/hardware/intels-ivy-bridge-release-date-to-debut-in-march-or-april-2012-report.html
From Link
"One of the most important changes brought to ivy bridge release date , is the addition of a new on-die GPU, which packs 30% more EUs, adds DirectX 11 support and can drive up to three independent displays, while the integrated PCI Express controller will also be updated to feature PCI-E Gen 3 support." This is inaddition to CPU 20% improvement over SB.

Bottom line is - When do you stop waiting for the latest, greatest and just lay back and ENJOY.
