I7-875K running at 2.26GHz

Yesterday my bios lost it's settings and I notice that it now states that it's running at 2.26GHz (17x133) when it boots. When I originally go the processor, I'm sure it was running at the 2.93 GHz it should be.
This processor was advertised as being 'factory unlocked' - but why is it running slower than 2.93? Even if it lost it's settings, shouldn't this be the *lowest* clock speed?
Any advice on how to restore it is also greatly appreciated.

What does it say it's running using CPUID HW Monitor?

Could be speedstep, but I think it would run at more like 1.6ghz.

I'm on a mac. System Profiler says 2.13GHz

Hmm, I tried 'Load Optmized Defaults' in the bios and now it's back up to 3.0Ghz. Stiff weird that it went so low..

A 3ghz cpu will run around 1.6ghz at idle.
