Approximate Purchase Date: By the end of March
Budget Range: Would prefer to stay around $800, but flexible up to about $900
System Usage from Most to Least Important: Graphics (i.e. Lightroom, GIMP) and gaming.
Would prefer to have real good performance on the graphics front and outstanding performance on the gaming front. From what I've read, the graphics end will use all the CPU it can be fed, while this particular CPU would be overkill for gaming. I'm not a real big gamer, but would like to get back into America's Army. I would like to splurge on the hard drives and run the OS/Lightroom/GIMP and AA off the SSD, while using the other hard drive for other programs and storage.
Parts Not Required: Keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor, video card. At this point, I just want to get the foundation started and add the monitor and video card within a month or so. Already have a cheap sound card and may reuse it and may not, but it's not required at this point.
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Newegg
Country of Origin: USA
Parts Preferences: Other than AMD for the price point, don't really have any preferences other than reputable manufacturers.
Overclocking: Don't really care. Would prefer not to and can live without the ultimate performance out of everything.
SLI or Crossfire: Maybe
Monitor Resolution: At this point, whatever I get will handle the current monitor easy, but when I go to a new monitor, I would like to be able to run my game of choice at 1920x1080 with the highest settings without the system working to do it. It wouldn't be a real big deal if I could meet it, but would like to be close.
Additional Comments: This system will be replacing a 9 year old Intel Celeron machine, so just about anything more than a netbook will be an improvement. I'm somewhat knowledgeable of some things computer wise, a monkey can slap parts together but he can't pick what parts and that's about where I'm at. Wanted to run this build through here and have it critiqued for compability and if it's a smart build. Another question I have is should I forgo the SSD at this time and go ahead and get a video card and if so, which one that would fit into my budget? I do use an external hard drive for storage and my current machine has only a 40GB drive. My guess is that at any one time, I would only take up around 100GB between all programs and OS with a new machine.
