Hello,
my 1394 adaptor keeps saying in is not functioning properly i have tried to update driver and drivers are current i installed a new virus program and ran it found several problems it repaired i have unistalled it and every time i install the adaptor it fails to install properly

The fact that it's coming up as a 1394 device suggests that the network adapter is not installed, perhaps because you have the wrong driver.

If this is a desktop computer try a new driver set for motherboard or adapter from maker or chipset supplier. Failing that I would just buy a cheapish PCI card network adapter (NIC) that comes with a driver for your operating system and install that.

If laptop, go to maker's website and download the correct driver pack for your model. If all else fails, buy and install a USB or PCMCIA network adapter.
