Hello,

So I am getting different answers and am hoping someone can clear this up. I am unsure of the different CPU Types and always bought based on socket, however I'm worried if I order a newMB it wont work with this chip, even though they are same socket type.

I have a:

Intel® Xeon® L5530, 2.40Ghz, 8M Cache, Turbo, HT, 1066Mhz Max Mem

I am wondering if it will work in a:

ASUS Sabertooth X58 LGA 1366 Intel X58 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard

It doesn't specifically list the xeon, but I foudn supermicro lga 1366 boards that do. Is this something supermicro had to add (instruction sets?) or something Asus is not bothering to list?

thanks

Kinzz,

sorry if this is a semi-repost, just really trying to get this cleared up.

All socket 1366 Supermicro motherboards available from Newegg are server motherboards that also support ECC memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100006654%20600007998&IsNodeId=1&Description=supermicro&name=LGA%201366&Order=BESTMATCH

Buying based on socket type doesn't guarantee compatibility. You also have to make sure that the motherboard support the CPU. The ASUS Sabertooth X58 may support it, but you can't blame Asus if ot doesn't. Asus also manufacture server motherboards that support the Xeon L5530.
