Cant connect to internet with a apple clamshell

my dad recently bought an apple clamshell and im only used to pc's and i tried doing the exact same thing i would on a pc to connect to the internet on a mac and i cant get to the internet i was wondering how do u connect to the internet with a mac its a apple g3 the clamshells as they call them it has the mac osx 9 please help me and if any one knows a site that give good help to beginners with macs that would be awesome
