Hi everyone

Just a query regarding the MSI 990FXA-GD65, the QVL doesn't list Corsair RAM as being supported. However, the Corsair site says that the RAM in question (XMS3 1333mhz 4GB - [2x2GB]) will work.

Anyone had success running Corsair RAM on the above mobo?

Another question at the same time:

The price between the MSI and the Asus M5A99X Evo is negligible - any thoughts on which is "better" bang for buck and "guaranteed" to last?

Thanks

There's no such thing as brand specific support of RAM when it comes to motherboards. RAM is RAM as far as the motherboard is concerned, and provided the SPECS of the ram match what your motherboard can support. In general, it's safe to stick with DDR3 1333 or DDR3 1600, with a respectable latency (9 or less). The only other thing to look at is the voltage the ram operates at. 1.5 volts is the magic number for near-universal application. RAM that comes at over that (1.6 and above) is factory overclocked, and may or may not work with your setup. The motherboard you listed pretty much accepts all speeds up to 1600 at 1.5 volts, with higher speeds attainable through overclocking.

Also, IMO Corsair makes excellent RAM, so you should have no problems with that manufacturer.
