First Intel Core ix Build - What Do You Think?

I have been building my own PC's for many years and have never had a problem choosing parts, but now that we have the Intel Core i series CPU's with the 3 different socket types it can be a little confusing. So I would like some feedback on the components I have decided on so far, which are:

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67-DELUXE Intel P67 Chipset
CPU: INTEL CORE i7 2600K 3.40Ghz
MEMORY: CORSAIR VENGEANCE (8 Gig) 4gig x 2 DDR3 CMZ8-1600C8 1600mhz Matched Pair

Now I have also never used a SSD Drive before, so some feedback on those would be great. I am thinking of having 2 to create a RAID. Is that possible with SSD drives.

Which is best? Having a SSD just for Windows, or using it for Windows and all programs? I'm leaning more towards just for Windows as I'm not really bothered by a few milliseconds difference in loading time with programs, but I am open to suggestions about pros and cons. Or creating a partition for both and mirroring it?

I will be running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on it and I will be doing the occasional video creation using Adobe After Effects, and I also will be using Adobe Photoshop CS5.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261222-31-build-advice <----- Do a "copy & paste" of that on this thread and fill it out please. It's hard to give advice without knowing some things such as your budget, what country your in, what components do you need and/or don't need...monitor (resolution), o/s (Windows), etc.. and what you intend to use this build for... when you intend on buying, etc...

Sorry about that. Being impatient. :??:

-----------------------------------------------------

Approximate Purchase Date: in about a week

Budget Range: AU$1500

System Usage from Most to Least Important: The system will need to run Photoshop CS5 as well as After Effects CS5. It will also be used for everyday computing like creating pdf files, surfing the Net, checking emails, etc. I play the occasional game so it must be able to play most games at a decent resolution.

Parts Not Required: Keyboard, Mouse, Monitor, Speakers, OS, Case, HDD's, DVD RW

Preferred Website(s) for Parts: www.gamedude.com.au

Country of Origin: Australia

Parts Preferences: It must be an Intel based system with preferably an ASUS motherboard. I have a thing for CoolerMaster parts so PSU and CPU Cooler would be nice to have from them if you think it goes well with everything else.

Overclocking: It would be nice to have the option.

SLI or Crossfire: As long as I can play some of the latest games in a decent resolution then it doesn't matter.

Monitor Resolution: My current monitor is running at 1280x1024

Additional Comments: These are the parts I have chosen so far:

Motherboard: ASUS P8P67-DELUXE Intel P67 Chipset
CPU: INTEL CORE i7 2600K 3.40Ghz
MEMORY: CORSAIR VENGEANCE (8 Gig) 4gig x 2 DDR3 CMZ8-1600C8 1600mhz Matched Pair
PSU: CoolerMaster 700watt Real Power MODULAR
CPU COOLER: CoolerMaster V6GT

This build includes NVIDIA's new gtx factory o/c gtx 560 and allows for you to add another one for SLI later on if you so choose. This build also includes 8 gigs of low voltage RAM (1.5v) which is what is recommended for these 1155 builds, along with an after market cpu h/s, and an Asus LED 2ms response time monitor with VESA wall mount and full HD.

Thanks for the reply, but I did state I prefer to buy parts from GameDude.com.au and I already have a monitor.

I also should have said that I prefer ATI/AMD graphics cards. I already have a Sapphire HD4650 1GB.

That build was just to give you an idea...you can take off it what you like, and use that site you like. But trying to navigate that site you linked me to was a bloody nightmare. Whoever built that site should be shot. :p

That and I read somewhere on this board that Nvidia cards do decent with Adobe proggy's with their CUDA and PhysX and what not.

Yeah GameDude has a *** layout, but it is only 20 minute drive for me.

I have never heard that with nVidia cards and Adobe programs. I will take do some research on that.

Can you explain why you chose a Samsung HDD instead of something like Western Digital or Seagate?

Not only does that Samsung run cheaper than those two other brands, but it blows them away in read/write times...and it runs quieter. There was a review done on here of the Samsung vs the new WD 1tb FAEX and the Samsung ate it up and spit it out. If you look at the builds on this board, that Samsung is by far the most recommended h/d on here.

So Samsung finally caught up in the HDD race. That's great!

I'll definitely have to do some more research and hope to get some more feedback before purchasing my new parts.

Thanks for your help Why_Me.

I like what you have picked out so far. If it were me perosnaly i would go with an 32gbs ssd, just to install windows. For the main drive I would go with a Western Digital Caviar Black 1 or 2 Terabytes. I would not put it in RAID 0. If your looking for a good gpu check out the Sapphire Radeon 6870, make sure its the one with a very large fan.

I would love to get a SSD to use as a boot/OS drive, but right now my budget doesn't allow it. So I am going to use the two existing 500GB Western Digital I already have for OS one #1 and Downloads, MP3's, Backups, etc on drive 2.

I don't really need a new GPU as the 4650 does a pretty good job for what I need right now.

Thanks for the feedback.
