Hello,
i am buying a new hp dv7t se i dont do gaming but i will be hooked up to a tv tuner
do i need 1gb 5650 or 512mb 5470 be ok for using my laptop as a tv?

or should i upgrade i5 2.53ghz to 2.66ghz for speed

i have to do one or the other to get an extra discount

Hello and welcome to the forums
5470M is fine;however,if you want to play games, then go with 5650M.It's significantly faster.
As for the CPU,unless the price difference is under $40,go for the faster one.Because the difference between them isn't noticeable.

to answer the original posted question, memory determines how much information the card can process and keep in its workload i.e. how much of your show or movie can be buffered before having to stop again or in gaming, how much eye candy that can be displayed on the screen, the more AA the more memory you use, so it depends on what your needs are, if you are only watching tv then go with the 5470 its cheaper, also your processor wont see much of a boost from 2,53 to 2,66, the performance increase will be unoticeable
