CPU To buy?

This is my first post on toms hardware, and I am currently configuring my own PC which I plan on assembling my self. i have decided to spend 80-100$ on my processor, and one question that I have had is whether to buy either an Intel or AMD CPU. Which CPU would get me the best bang for my buck? Thank you in advance for all of your advice

The AMD X4 840, but your best deal would be the X4 955 for $115
