a friend of mine has a toshiba satelite c 655 and apparently has shot the system and needs to reset the system. i need to know how she can do this. any help would be greatly appreciated.

It may have a recovery partition on the hard drive Lets you format and go back to how it was when new.
If you kept the Toshiba Recovery partition on the machine, when you power it on, hold down the '0' (zero) key, till the Toshiba Recovery program starts. Do the full Toshiba Recovery and follow the instructions.
