Hello,

So I want to upgrade my GeForce 9800 GT to a GeForce GTX 460. I've been looking around on the web and I've been getting conflicting reports about compatibility and possible proprietary issues.

Alienware m51x Laptop Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU X9000 @ 2.80 GHz 4.00 GB 64-bit operating system

I didn't know you could upgrade a laptop video card. If you can upgrade it, then there should be no problem changing out a 9800GT for a GTX460.

Well alright, let's start there. Is it even possible to upgrade a laptop graphics card? I have no real experience with changing out internal hardware so this is all new to me.

Here's a tidbit of info that may help (from another forum):

"Alienware usually has discrete laptop graphics cards, but they're usually proprietary and must be sourced from the manufacturer."
