I just upgraded my computer to:
Sabertooth P67
i7 2600
212 CoolMaster
Intel 320 160GB SSD

In Bios it show CPU temp in 30's. When I start Windows 7 64 and start up ASUS Thermal Radar it shows Core 1 at 118c!! I shut'er down. Can that be right?

Solution

Hi!Welcome to TOmshardware!
First thing is that what unit is that measurement taken in?Celsius or Fahrenheit?

Second thing is that you could download other temperature software monitors.Recommened is RealTemps and coretemps so that you could get an average temp measurement.

118C is bullshit, your comp wudn't even boot at those temps!!! Its most probably in farenhiet , 118F = 48 C :)

I googled around and think its BS too. I restarted and quickly downloaded CoreTemp 0.99.8. It shows temps for all 4 cores between 26 and 28 degrees C.

Restarting the Thermal Radar and it shows in red letters VCore1 at 118C

TR only shows VCore 1 and VCore 2.

I'll report it to ASUS and see what they say.

hmm...coretemp used to give me wrong values with my e8400; and 26 degrees i really doubt, unless u live in a very cold country, room temp itself is 28 on average!!! i'd prefer RealTemp :)

28c is 82F and our rooms are not that warm winter or summer. % of cpu usage was only single digit to 15% max, nothing to drive any heat. I ordered the supplemental fan for the board which should be in on Monday.

I saw the RealTemp download too. I'll use it for comparison. Maybe s Speedfan too.

I think the 118c (and yes it is c) is a bad sensor in the Sabertooth board. It will be interesting to see what ASUS wants to do about it.

Thanks for the replys!

I'm sitting here looking at the operating panels of SpeedFan 4.43, Core Temp 99.8, Real Temp GT 3.60.

Core Temp is showing the four cores ranging between 27c & 32c
Real Temp is showing 27 to 31
Speedfan is showing one CPU at 47 and one at 128c!

My guess is still a bad sensor. And I'll bet SpeedFan is using readings from it to show 128c.
