You will have to upgrade that power supply. If you don't the most powerful card that you can install on that PC is a HD 5670.It should allow you to play most games on medium- high settings at that resolution.

Also..my sims 2 game controls gives me a few options as to what resoloution I want to set the game at..does that matter at all?

upgrade your power supply and get gts 450 or hd 5770.to play games fine at that resolution,hd 5670 is not good for high resolutions.

For Sims 2 a HD 5670 is more than enough. You can try lowering the resolution, but not too much. The HD 5670 suits your requirements perfectly, if you're into casual gaming.
