Can you use a 2.1 or 2.0 x16 card on an old 939 MB ?

I can get a used 5770 Gigabyte card for under $20.00 , need to know if it will work on the old board . It is replacing a ATI 2600 . Has opteron 185 x2 cpu and Asus MB with a ultra 650 watt psu .

Thanks

forgot to add , it is a media comp and the "monitor is a 42" vizio TV 1980x1080 .
  2. If your motherboard has a pci express x16 slot (ver. Doesn't matter) and your power supply unit can handle it, then it'll surely work..
  3. I have heard some people running into some problems between 2.1 and 1.0 but they should all be compatiable anyway.I would stick with a 2.0 just to be safe.

That card will get bottlenecked by that CPU though, just a fair warning

As long as you have a PCI-e slot then it should be fine to install a PCI-e 2.0 card.

Stay away from PCI-e 2.1 cards though, there have been problems with PCI-e 1.0 slots.
  5. Thanks , not worried about bottleneck , heaviest thing done on the comp is watch blu-ray movies , so far have not had trouble , besides the old vid card going dead .
