I had an Olympus Camedia C3000 which got hit by lightening. Didn't
like it much anyway.

I have narrowed my choice in a new camera to the Nikon Coolpix or the
Minolta Dimage A200.

Which is the better camera?

I take pictures of my parrots. Some in flight so that I need
continuous shoot. Most of my pictures are taken indoors.

Of course take pics of my kids also.

8700 has slow AF. Go directly to www.dpreview.com and start doing some
research, especially on timings.
